The federal Department of Health and Human Services has a Health Data Initiative designed to make information available to the public. HealthData.gov has over 3000 data sets available for developers.
Prodrax will try to find a way to produce profitable products from this data.
To start we will use data from FAERS.
The FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) is a database that contains "information on adverse event and medication error reports submitted to FDA." These are reports by consumers, doctors, pharmacists, and other health care people about both medical devices and drugs. Since 1996 the Food and Drug Administration has been running FAERS but they made it hard for citizens to access this information. Their website says "a simple search of FAERS data cannot be performed with these files by persons who are not familiar with creation of relational databases."
Prodrax will take information from FAERS and
- Make it user-friendly
- Analyze the data using statistical techniques to look for anomalies. We may be able to uncover combinations of drugs that produce negative effects - combinations that are not obvious without machine analysis of large data sets.
Report on breakdown of adverse events by
- Class of medicine
- Age and sex of patient
We will also investigate the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). This is sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration and is similar to FAERS. We will not indulge in anti-vaccine conspiracies, but we will provide data on negative reactions to vaccines reported to VAERS. Using data mining techniques, we will attempt to find statistically significant correlations among reports of negative reports. We will look for combinations of vaccines and medicines that seem to produce negative
We will also analyze the data and report on negative reactions broken down by
- Type of vaccine
- Age of patient
- Date vaccine administered
- Individual consumers
- Consumer-focused Healthcare websites
- Insurance companies
- Medical practices and health care providers
- Public health agencies
